In the story Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck illustrates through Curley's wife that people's first perception of somebody may not be what he/she is really like. "Why can't I talk to you? I never get to talk to nobody. I get awful lonely" Curley's wife is misunderstood as a tramp who is mean to everybody. The real her had a dream just like all the other workers on the ranch. Her dream was very attainable too, she was going to be an actress. But instead, she married Curley and ended up on a ranch in Soledad, California. She even said herself, "I don't like Curley, He ain't a nice fella." She hated her life being married to a guy who would only talk about beating guys up if they ever talked to her. "Wha's the matter with me?" "Well George says you'll get us in a mess." (87-88) Curley's wife was seen as a trouble maker and a one-way ticket off the ranch by all of the guys on the ranch. Nobody wanted to talk to her because Curley would get mad and fire them; and if they were fired in the 1930's they had nothing. But she had good intentions overall and she did not deserve to get killed. She was just like all the guys, dreamers that hit road blocks along the way in their journey. " I coulda made something of my self. Maybe I will yet." This quote is important because she still is positively thinking. She still has a perspective on life and how she is going to live it. But she has to be a doer in the era of the 1930's because everyone was a dreamer at that time. This quote means that women still could live good lives even though they were married to guys like Curley who relied on being the son of the boss. Guys like Curley did not need to have dreams because they were just going to survive off of inheritance. Also, she was seen wrongly because on page 90, she was playing with Lennie and telling him about how everyone likes to touch soft things. But her biggest mistake ever was at the bottom of page 90. " Here, feel right here." She didn't know that Lennie was going to act up and not let go of her hair. She didn't know how much he loved petting and holding soft things. She did not deserve to die, she was just like everybody else on the ranch. The saddest part about her dying, was that she did not get to make something of herself. She did not to pursue her dream and she did not deserve to die.
